It was a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon, and for some reason, Dangerous Dan decided to pick me up for dinner two hours early, so I FINALLY got a chance to visit a cute little cafe that I have been meaning to try for months and months!
Covernotes is a cute little place, and it’s cozy and friendly and everything I’ve ever dreamed of! It occupies the former site of Richmond Hill High School, so bonus points for historical and repurposed spaces.
It also doubles as a used bookstore, which is pretty cool. This was actually one of the main reasons why I wanted to come to this place – for the books! And then when I arrived, I remembered that I do in fact judge a book by its cover, and sometimes even by its font (I’m a terrible person!), so these books really weren’t for me. I like the library better anyway.
Regardless of your love (or lack thereof) of old books, Covernotes makes a mean hot chocolate (and by mean, I mean delicious!), and it’s a nice place to sit down and read or study or catch up with a friend. (There are also sandwiches and soups here if you want to have a bite to eat as well!)
One of the things that I really liked about Covernotes was the fact that it felt so local (although there is another branch in Newmarket). It’s not one of those cookie cutter Starbucks cafes (even though those are also fun to sit in!), and it reassured me that suburban Toronto is not all that boring. We have cool and interesting cafes, too.
A girl named Claire drew this beautiful drawing and it makes this newspaper stand all the more fantastical, so I had to take a picture.
